Magical Mystery Tour
May 16 – 18, 2010 priort to CNU 18
Join the "Magical Mystery Tour" which will precede the CNU in Atlanta.
It is premised upon the success of the tour that preceded the CNU in Miami in 2002. Andres Duany and many others will lead tours of 9 different projects over 2 days. These projects represent some of the best designed projects at the scale of the neighborhood, block, street and building. Participants will help identify the top 5 successes and missed opportunities for each project that will be published in a report that will be presented at the CNU later that week. While it would be fun to simply visit these projects, what makes this tour unique is the ability to see these places through the eyes of other leading practitioners who will be on the tour with us. Through this collaborative process, we not only expect to have a fantastic time, but also learn more than can be learned in any conference setting.

Leisureville: Adventures in a World Without Children just released in paperback
Blechman delves into life in the senior utopia, offering a hilarious firsthand report on everything from ersatz nostalgia to the residents’ surprisingly active sex life. But this is more than just a romp through a retirement paradise; Blechman traces the history of the age-segregated retirement phenomenon, and travels to Arizona to show what has happened to the pioneering developments after decades of segregation. A fascinating blend of serious history, social commentary, and hilarious, engaging reportage, Leisureville is an important book on a major, underreported trend.

Stimulus Bill Chart
Attached is a chart of state-by-state funding (provided by AASHTO) from the transportation portion of the recovery bill. It shows how much each state and urban area will receive in STP funds (which can be used for more than just roads and bridges despite their messaging) and the amount of transit capital funding and fixed guideway modernization funding will go to each urban and rural area.
